Plenty of new, young faces joined more experienced activists to fill the Solidarity Center for Food AND Medicine's general membership meeting January 24 . The annual gathering marked the further development of FAM from a successful response to large-scale area layoffs when it was founded half a dozen years ago, to a mature organization of laid-off and current workers striving together for a more just society. |

Thirty-five FAM members elected four new board members, approved a budget, laughed along with videos of last year's theatrical presentations, and voted for their favorite programs of the past and future. The meeting (which ended on schedule with several minutes to spare) was capped off by a special version of "Happy Birthday" sung by the new Working Chorus to the six-year-old organization as cupcakes topped with candles emerged from the kitchen. >> continue reading |
