Youth Event at the Worker Center

"We like to see the hall being used by the community; that's what it's there for, and we need the energy of young people to revitalize the labor movement," says Council president Jack McKay.

Several FAM activists organized the first Worker Center concert in late November, 2007. Four acts performed, including Bangor punk-rock "tripod" USA Waste ("We're like a tripod, because if any one of us left or stopped working, we'd all fall down," drummer Dub Waste said between songs). Many of those who played, helped organize, or just came to the concert wanted to do it again.

The second show was held February 16. USA Waste performed again, along with similarly pro-worker, anti-corporate punk rockers Clinic Bomb, guitar/banjo-wielding bluesman Rattlesnake Slim, and the beautiful, hypnotic Full Contact Kitty.

The crowd was nearly twice the size and very enthusiastic. Full Contact Kitty drummer Jason Dean called it "The best crowd [he'd] ever played for."

With this energy, more concerts will be organized soon. Clinic Bomb singer Joanne Bolduc is leading plans for a show on April 4, featuring her band and several others.
